The ParForCE Project Technology Transfer Workshop

January 15-16, 1996, Madrid, Spain

Workshop Venue:

The ParForCE Technology Transfer Workshop will be held at the School of Computer Science (Facultad de Informática - FIM) of the Technical University of Madrid (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid - UPM). The School is in UPM's new Montegancedo Campus, located in a residential area (the "Urbanización Montepríncipe") outside Boadilla del Monte, a little residential town 7 km to the SW of Madrid. Please follow the instructions for accessing the Montegancedo Campus.

NOTE: Off-hour access (incl. Saturday, Sunday, and Holidays): The standard entrance in the previously mentioned instructions is closed when there are no lectures. There is an alternative entrance for these circumstances inside the Urbanización Montepríncipe. The entrance to the Urbanización is also on the M-511, at the first roundabout after the M-40 one, towards Boadilla. The entrance to the campus is the big black iron gate on Avenida de los Sauces, very close to the corner with Avenida de Montepríncipe (the big black buildings with green tinted windows). In case of doubt, you can ask at the control booth at the entrance of Urbanización Montepríncipe (ask for "Facultad de Informática"). Once you are at the gate, if it is closed, you need to call us by phone. Use e.g. Manuel Hermenegildo's mobile phone, 909-005745 (or +340-9-005845). There is a public phone at the small shopping center on Avenida de Montepríncipe (keep the taxi for going there if you don't have a mobile phone).

Once you are at the Campus: There are three main buildings. A white one and two green ones. The workshop will be held in the smaller of the two dark green buildings (the "Edificio de Decanato"). If you get close to the right building you will see signs leading you to the meeting room (room 1003). This building also houses the reception desk. In case you want to locate our lab and normal offices they are in the larger one of the two green buildings. Look for room L-3201 (our lab). Manuel Hermenegildo's office is in room D-2212 (within the "Departamento de Inteligencia Artificial" area). Note, however, that during the workshop and the review we will all be in the "Decanato" building and not in our offices.

We have hired a mini-bus to take all workshop participants from Aparto-Hotel Rosales (see accommodation info) to the workshop venue on both Monday and Tuesday morning. The mini-bus will be waiting just in front of the main entrance of the hotel and will be leaving for the department at 8:50 sharp.

Workshop Dinner Location:

The Social dinner on Monday 15th will take place at the restaurant "Samarkanda", which is located inside Atocha train Station (subway station "Atocha", not suprisingly; a postscript map of the Madrid subway is available). Someone from the UPM group will be at Hotel Rosales to go with everyone to the restaurant but, if you prefer to go to the restaurant by yourself, it is inside the >old< Atocha station (the older building attached to the new train station). Now it is not longer used as a station, but rather it contains an indoor tropical garden. The restaurant is up the stairs at the end of the garden away from the new station. The telephone number of the restaurant is 530-9746.
