1. Use an installable tar archive as described in the INSTALL file. It should
work with no problem on the OS versions and platforms I've listed if built on
Solaris 2.5. Don't forget to add symbolic links in /usr/local/bin (and /bin)
which can't be made by tar but ARE made by make install. I am implementing this
solution, though its going to take some time to update my custom jumpstarts.
2. Do a "make -n install" and then manually run the steps listed without
introducing the dependency checking that is causing a cc to be executed.
3. Why don't I have a compiler installed on the target platform? -- Timing. I'm
installing perl before I get the compilers installed.
4. Why not use the precompiled versions of perl and related tools.
5. Do a recursive cp of an installed perl. (similar to the tar solution).
